Completion of My Thuan – Can Tho Expressway put back

Project delayed by Covid-19, slow site clearance, and a shortage of construction materials.

The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has approved a proposal to adjust the implantation timeframe for contract packages in the My Thuan – Can Tho Expressway project.

The project’s investor, the My Thuan Project Management Board, earlier proposed that MoT allow it to adjust the implementation timeframe for three contract packages in the project.

Under initial contracts, contract package XL-01 was scheduled for completion in April 2023 and contract packages XL-02 and XL-03 were expected to be completed in February 2023.

However, implementation was delayed due to Covid-19, slow site clearance, and a shortage of construction materials for leveling.

The investor therefore proposed that MoT extend the completion time on the three packages to the end of December 2023.

The 23-km My Thuan – Can Tho Expressway, part of the eastern North – South Expressway, passes through the Mekong Delta provinces of Dong Thap and Vinh Long. Total investment is estimated at VND4.82 trillion ($202 million).

Construction began in 2021.
